Candy Container Collectors of America
Convention
The Candy Container Collector of America club hold their annual convention in conjunction with the Extravaganza at Renningers in Kutztown and Shup's Grove in Adamstown. Two of the shows that provide members a chance to shop till they drop. A lot of the Co-Op's arround Adamstown, also participate in this special weekend. These shops while looking for better sales, tend to have sales of 10 to 20% at most co-op's or stores, while you are left to dicker on the fields. Most of the shops are on Rte 272 from Lancaster to Adamstown, but there are loads of shops in nearby towns such as Gettysburg, York, Hanover, Annsville, Hershey, Bird In Hand and New Oxford.
There is Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster and Hershey Park at Hershey for the kids. There are Casino's And Racetrack near by, so there is lots to do, to keep you busy as well as what the club provides, which will be more detail below.
On Wednesday the officers meet to hold their annual meeting. A Hospitality Room opens around 4:00 PM and also on Thursday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Here members gather to meet old acquaintances and welcome new members. Terry usually bring a showcase of rare candies for all to see and the club scrap books with photo's of past convention are on display.
A club social is held Thursday evening. This is generally a time for getting to know new members and old acquaintances, this year club web master gave a 20 minute talk on the merits of the club web site with some hand outs for members to look at.
On Friday the highlight of the convention is Swap Night. Here members who have candy containers for sale set up tables filled with hundreds of candy containers. First timer eyes really light up the first time the walk into the room. Around 9:00 PM a short auction of candy containers is held were members bid on candy containers that club members have offered for sale. Saturday at 3:00PM to 5:00 PM a workshop on Repros and sometimes on new finds is held.
Saturday is Banquet night. This is a sit down dinner with appetizer, main course, desert and cofee/tea, soda and the annual club cake. Following the dinner the club holds it annual meeting. When attendance allows, a raffle is held for a rare candy container and everyone receives a door prize, the raffle has been discontinued because of the small convention attendance the last few years.
Sunday, everyone is on their own to visit the many antique shops in Adamstown, or they may visit shops in Gettysburg, Hershey, New Oxford, and along route 30.
